What’s it matter where you buy a domain name from? Do you have to buy it from the (potential) web host?
It doesn’t much matter. I don’t know of any web hosts that require you to buy the domain from them, but it sometimes makes things easier because you have one fewer person to deal with.
If you’re not technically savvy, it may make sense to buy your domain from your web host. That way, you won’t have to pass information you don’t understand back and forth between two companies when you first set your domain up.
But you can, say, register a domain with GoDaddy and then host it with 1&1.
No purchasing a domain name and web hosting services are two different things. It might be wise to purchase from the same site as they maybe will offer some kind of package deal. A popular domain name site is Godaddy.com. But there are several.. My advise is to just Google it.
