Web hosting I recommend and use is GoDaddy.com. Godaddy has provided me and my clients 100% uptime, exceptional customer service and a wonderful experience of just being associated with them. Over the year I've had 1and1, Network Solutions, IPowerweb; GoDaddy is far superior in performance: uptime, features, functions and customer service
Depending on what your planning to do with your site (e-comm) will determine the features you need from your hosting plan. Below I included a link to GoDaddy to review, different plans and features.
Now that you have your domain, you need to obtain a hosting account, then publish your site. Once published include a site map and submit to the search engines. I've attached the links for Google's Webmaster tools a excellent FREE tool for your website, also include is a link to Google Analytics and URL submissions. Need more assistance send me a letter.

I use my own local server, and for $39 a month (through my home phone line) I get I think a dozen email accounts, website with more storage/usable space than I can think of, and 'spam' filters on all emails.
I have been checking out a full business web hosting service-starts at $29 a month and includes full 'on line selling' webstuff-charge cards, PayPal, up to 30 items (then it goes to 100, 500, 1000 etc. but it is still cheap!) so I'm looking at that to expand my sales. Check around on 'buying' your domain name. Network Solutions does offer very discounted rates for long term, but I've been getting several email alerts a month from other companies as low as $9.95 for a domain name.

Hi Michele,
You are doing the smart thing in looking at several options in web hosting. One extra step to consider in your search is to compare feature-by-feature and then dollar-for-dollar. You can take a look at the web host that I use at http://compare.sitesell.com/UnstoppableD…
It has cost me less than $1 per day. They have assisted me through the designing, building and maintaining of my website.
The also provide all the tools including a tool that analyzes your work through each step to help ensure good quality content that will help with search engine optimization. I hope this has helped.
BEST WISHES!

1 Buy a domain
2. Setup of a web hosting
3. Create a website
4. Publish your website
For beginners I think yahoo web hosting is the best and easiest to use. Yahoo has question and answer section that can solve most problems and direct phone line for additional support.http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/smallbu…

Then you need to promote your site.
The first part of SEO is page optimization. Basic steps included in onsite optimization are:
1) Find best targeted keywords relevant to your business
2) Make title and meta tags relevant to your web page theme
3) Content optimization and internal linking.
4) Use of h1,…,h6 tags for heading
5) Create a site map
6) Use title and alt attributes that include targeted keywords.
7) Make robots.txt file.
Once onsite optimization is completed, offsite optimization is started. Here are some basic steps for offsite optimization:
1) Directory submission
2) Article submission
3) Link exchange
4) Press release
5) Social bookmarking
6) Blogging
7) Forum posting
For online business, content is the most important factor. Having informative and interesting content in the website will entice frequent visits by more visitors. This also helps you to get quality back links easily, as quality back links are most important factor in search engine optimization. Once your site gets higher ranking, it will start getting more targeted visitors and your ROI will increase gradually.
